Site Evaluation

For this rotation, I met with my site evaluator Professor Maida as well as my classmates who were also on their pediatric rotation. Professor Maida gave each of us feedback that we could all learn from.

For my first site visit, I presented a 13-year-old patient who had worsening undifferentiated left arm pain for two weeks. My assessment and plan included a wide list of differentials including possibilities of malignancy, rotator cuff strain, and tendonitis. I also contributed 5 drug cards including Zyrtec, tobramycin ophthalmic, famotidine, palivizumab, and acetaminophen.

At my second site visit, I presented a case of a 4-year-old patient who had an asthma exacerbation. We discussed an article about the efficacy of using inhaled corticosteroids intermittently even though it is usually prescribed as a maintenance inhaler.  I also presented 5 more drug cards including Flonase, Augmentin, Bactroban, Singulair, and Claritin.

In conclusion, my site visits with Professor Maida were great learning experiences. He gave useful feedback on my H and Ps and care plans that I will refer back to. I also appreciated hearing the different interesting cases that my classmates presented.
